STUDIO ASSISTANT

 

HTW is currently seeking applicants for a part-time studio assistant position. Hours are flexible and some remote/WFH tasks are available. In-person studio work would typically fall between 8am and 3:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Total hours will vary but will rarely exceed 12 hours per week. Applicants should provide their own transportation to and from the studio, and must be comfortable with stairs and able to comfortably lift 20 - 30lbs. Masks may be requested in the studio based on Covid prevalence. The HTW studio is located in a private home in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. We have an elderly dog who visits.

Please note that this is NOT a weaving job, per se, and a strong weaving resume is not required to apply. Studio techniques can be learned on the job, and HTW may be able to sponsor ongoing weaving education. Opportunities for weaving/small business mentorship will be available to interested applicants. The exact responsibilities and scope of this position will be determined by the abilities of the employee but may include any or all of the following:

  • Studio work
    • Preparations for weaving (warp winding, beaming, threading etc.)
    • Loom maintenance and upkeep
    • Maintaining clean studio and other work spaces (including basement laundry area)
  • Finishing work
    • Cutting, serging, washing, pressing
    • Machine sewing
    • Hand sewing
    • Making and attaching tags
    • Folding and storing finished textiles
  • Assist with onsite and offsite sales opportunities
    • Setting up/breaking down displays
    • Monitoring booth
    • Interacting with clients
    • Taking payment and packaging items
  • Website maintenance
    • Keeping products and inventories up to date
    • Adding new products
  • Preparing and shipping orders
  • Executive assistant tasks
    • Inventories
    • Basic bookkeeping
    • Record keeping
    • Email correspondence and management
  • Social media support
    • Developing social media strategies
    • Creating and deploying campaigns
  • Photography for website and Instagram/Facebook
  • Researching various topics (shows, artist’s residencies, marketing strategies etc.)
